Acolyte

I am a senior altar server who assists the priest and deacon during the celebration of the weekend and weekday Masses.

I supervise the altar servers at Mass.

I set the altar for the Liturgy of the Eucharist and I ring the bells at the Consecration.

During the Communion Rite I bring additional hosts from the tabernacle to the Priest and Eucharistic Ministers when they are needed.

I ensure the altar servers are in place and ready for the various special liturgies, such as the Easter Vigil, Confirmations, Baptisms and Funerals.

Anyone from 8th Grade to adult who has been an altar server can be an Acolyte.

Adoration Committee Member

I work with other committee members to foster Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament within St. Antony Parish.

I help plan special liturgies and activities focused on the Blessed Sacrament.

I encourage parishioners to commit at least one hour per week for private Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.

I support the planning and celebration of weekly Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament every Thursday.

With the other members I pray for, and communicate with, the seminarians of the Seattle Archdiocese around the US.

Altar Server

I assist the priest and deacon at the altar during the celebration of the Mass.

I carry the cross or candles in the processions at the beginning and end of Mass.

I hold the Sacramentary (red book) for the priest when he reads the prayers.

I carry the candles for the procession of the Book of the Gospels from the Altar to the Ambo for the reading of the Gospel.

I bring water to the priest or deacon during the Preparation of Gifts, and I help the priest wash his hands.

I help to take the communion vessels from the Altar after Communion.

Anyone from 4th Grade to adult can be an Altar Server.

Children's Liturgy of the Word - Catechist

I help children to understand the scriptures and to take a more active part in celebrating their faith.

I lead the children out from the assembly after the Mass Introductory Rite has finished.

I take the children to the Brides’ Room in the church and lead them in celebrating the Liturgy of the Word.

We use the “Lectionary for Masses with Children” which has the readings, psalm and gospel in language more understandable for children.

We return to the assembly for the Liturgy of the Eucharist.

Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion

I am also frequently referred to as a Eucharistic Minister.

I am a specially trained and commissioned layperson.

I assist the priest and the deacon to distribute the Body and Blood of Christ to the faithful at Mass.

I am a fully initiated (confirmed) and active Catholic who has a deep love and reverence for the Holy Eucharist.

I act reverently at all times and I show the greatest respect for the Holy Eucharist, which I am privileged to carry in my hands.

If approved by our pastor, and with extra training, I may also take Holy Communion to the sick, the hospitalized and the homebound.

Environmental Arts Team Member

I work with others on the team to ensure our church is decorated properly for all the seasons of the Liturgical Year.

I help in maintaining the banners, wall hangings, streamers and other items used in the church.

I help in arranging flowers in the sanctuary, the Blessed Sacrament Chapel, and around the various statues during the year.

I help to decorate the church for special liturgies and seasons, such as the Easter Triduum, Easter Season, Christmas, Lent, Advent, Pentecost, parish Confirmations, etc.

Lector

I proclaim the Word of God at Mass.

I can also be called a Reader.

I read from Holy Scriptures, Old Testament readings and New Testament readings.

I proclaim the readings clearly and reverently, so that everyone in the church can hear the Word of God.

I am a fully initiated (confirmed) and active Catholic who has a special love and reverence for the Word of God.

I am willing to study and pray over the sacred scriptures and devote time to prepare for Mass.

I have a good speaking voice and can proclaim the readings to the assembly with clarity and authenticity.

Liturgy Commission Member

I work with six other parishioners as a consultative body to the Liturgy Director, and I help develop recommendations for parish liturgical policies, goals and guidelines.

I am a fully initiated (confirmed) Catholic and active member of St Anthony Parish. I help ensure that our liturgy preparation is in accord with the parish goals and priorities.

I help evaluate our parish liturgy program and liturgical celebrations, in accordance with the directives of the Archdiocese of Seattle.

With the commission, I study liturgical documents of the US Conference of Catholic Bishops and the Second Vatican Council to continually update our knowledge of liturgical practices.

Minister of Hospitality

I am also referred to as an Usher and Greeter.

I am the person who greets and welcomes everyone at the doors of the church and I help people find seats in church.

I answer questions and help people find their way around the church and other parish buildings if they are new to the parish or just visiting.

I help take up the collection.

I help people who are handicapped or who otherwise need special attention during Mass.

I help keep the Communion procession flowing in an orderly fashion.

I distribute church bulletins to people as they leave church.

Sacristian

I work with the Liturgy Director and the liturgical ministers to prepare for the celebration of the Mass.

I am a fully initiated (confirmed) Catholic who has a love for the Liturgy.

I ensure everything is available and ready for the liturgy: wine, hosts, candles, sound system, etc.

I ensure the pages are properly marked in the Sacramentary, Lectionary, and the Book of the Gospels.

I provide assistance as necessary during the Mass to Acolytes, Altar Servers, Eucharistic Ministers, Lectors, Usher/Greeters, Music Ministers and, of course, the Presiding Priest and Deacon.

I ensure the church environment is comfortable for the assembly.
